What a day the 20th July was in 2007, 2 houses saved from the effects of water runnoff due to the drains being unable to cope on the south side of the road by the castle walls. sandbags collected by residents from the council, and the highways dept delivered more sand bags and provided cones and the police provided some signs and cones.
the pictures do not really show how bad it was, the sand bags helped divert water into the storm drains on the northern side of the road, which is able to cope, this alleviated the strain on the double culvert by the 2 properties adjacent to the pub. the drains around the water trough also failed to cope. The council and oxfordshire highways are aware but seem to be unable to do anything.
the small stream on the way out of the vilage towards the Southam road burst its banks and claimed several vehicular victims. We were lucky that no homes we severely damaged and that is all due to the actions of a few.
thank goodness for some village spirit
A big thank you to those few involved..... you know who you are!
